Alfrus is one amongst the most important Italian companies for the processing of almonds and derivatives production. The mother company, in the Puglia region, moved part of the production to the north of the country taking over and renovating an old factory in the province of Udine. The existing facility was equipped with a wastewater treatment plant already, however, it was neither technologically nor dimensionally fitting to treat the sludge resulting from the conversion of the product. Furthermore, the public sewage and respective consortium purifier are not hydraulically suitable to treat the relevant volume of wastewater.
The impossibility to dispose of the wastewater, even though properly treated, to the public sewage made it necessary to request authorisation to discharge into surface waters. Taking into account the stringent discharge limits, we decided to realise a plant to treat wastewater by the membrane technology (ultrafiltration, MBR) within partially underground concrete tanks cast in place. We converted the former treatment plant in a settling/emergency tank and we also installed a line for the automatic dehydration of the excess sludge. The purifying process is highly automated to limit the use of human resources and may be controlled remotely via WEB, thanks to its remote-control system.
